Summary:

Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment for students to maximize their physical participation in the educational process and/or environment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Reviews physicians’ referrals (prescriptions) and students’ conditions and medical records to determine physical therapy treatment required

Tests and measures students’ strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency; and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs

Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of students’ data

Provides direct physical therapy to students

Records treatment, response, and students’ progress

Instructs patients and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home

Confers with physicians and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of patients’ health care

Trains staff in proper lifting techniques, body mechanics, positioning, and handling of students needing assistance

Assists classroom staff during bussing and lunch time activities

Attends IEP, MET, IFSP, and PPM meetings with appropriate paperwork

Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree. Michigan Physical Therapist License. Embraces and supports KRESA philosophies related to diversity, inclusiveness and anti-racism. Ability to interact effectively with individuals from a wide range of cultures. Ability to discuss cultural differences with colleagues and clients. Ability to assess one’s own strengths and limitations or challenges and integrate this understanding into interpersonal interactions.

Ability to select and develop appropriate methods, skills and techniques attuned to people’s cultural, multicultural or marginal experiences in their environments. Ability to effectively employ multicultural approaches in resolving problems.
